Myopia Management

Enjoy clear vision for years to come

What is Myopia

Myopia, also known as nearsightedness, is a condition where you can see clearly when objects are close to you and objects look blurry further away. Myopia is the most common vision issue among children and young adults, where they often squint at objects that are further away to try and help bring them into focus. Myopia is caused by the eyeball growing too long and tends to worsen quickly with reduced outdoor time and increased screen time on devices.

Why Myopia Matters

During childhood is when myopia typically starts and unless treated can progress very quickly. Childhood myopia rates are increasing, affecting 1 in 3 children.

Myopia often causes struggles in school and activities due to poor vision, as well as an increased risk for eye diseases. Early intervention with myopia management can slow, or even stop, the progression of your child's myopia.

Types of Myopia Control

Proven to be effective in a number of studies, we offer non-invasive treatments of customized contact lenses and special prescription eye drops:

Atropine Prescription Eye Drops

Research suggests that near-eye strain or over-focusing may contribute to myopia progression. Formulated to a specific concentration, this special prescription eye drop is known to slow the progression of myopia by relaxing the focusing system in the eye. Atropine eye drops are applied at night before bed and the child will wear glasses or contact lenses during the day. This treatment option is excellent for younger children who show rapid myopia progression and are not quite ready to start treatment contact lenses.

Why I Treat Myopia

I started wearing glasses in 3rd grade. Once my daughter started to experience the same struggle I wanted her to experience a world free of glasses and slow down how quickly her eyes were changing each year. I treat myopia to give our patients who struggle with their vision worsening, more choices than just wearing glasses.
