Healthy Diet = Healthy Eyes

My family has been working out at CrossFit Meta in Brea for almost a year now and it has changed how we live and eat.  Diet is everything and what we put into our bodies is so important in how we fuel our bodies.  We are trying to eat as close to the Paleo diet as we can but mostly we eat "clean."  I absolutely love sweets, so I've been trying new recipes for lemon bars, snickerdoodles and banana bread.  So instead of using flour and sugar, I use nut flours (coconut or almond) and honey or coconut sugar (both have a lower glycemic index).   As for meals, we've been cooking a lot of crockpot recipes and adding a lot of veggies to our diet.

Here are some foods that are especially good for EYE HEALTH:

  •  Green leafy vegetables like spinach, kale, and collards

  •  Salmon, tuna and other oily fish

  •  Eggs, nuts, beans (non-meat protien sources)

  •  Citrus fruits like oranges and grapefruit

These foods contain nutrients such as omega-3 fatty acids, lutein, zinc and vitamins C and E, which have been shown to minimize the risk of age-related vision problems like macular degeneration and cataracts.

Also, just eating a well-balanced diet can maintain a healthy weight to help prevent  obesity-related diseases like type 2 diabetes, which is the leading cause of blindness in adults.

So, it's so important we think about the food we eat because it impacts the health of our entire body.
